The matchup for the SEC Tournament Championship Game is set with Texas A&M and Tennessee advancing to the final with wins on Saturday. Those outcomes also impacted Joe Lunardi’s updated bracketology look at the NCAA Tournament.
In particular, the Aggies are a team looking to play their way into the big dance during the conference tournament. Earlier on Saturday, Lunardi had said he expected Texas A&M would need to win the SEC Tournament in order to make the big dance.
Here’s what Lunardi had to say about the Aggies in his updated bracketology after Saturday’s results:
“Texas A&M is absolutely in play for an at-large bid despite their placement below; need to wait on SMU and Virginia Tech results before slotting the final bubble selections,” wrote Lunardi.
He currently has the Aggies in the “First Four Out” section and just behind Virginia Tech. The Hokies play Duke in the ACC Tournament Saturday night while SMU lost to Memphis in the AAC Tournament semifinals.
With Kentucky’s loss to Tennessee, Lunardi has the Wildcats locked into a 2-seed and the Volunteers in as a 3-seed. Auburn is also slotted as a 2-seed with Arkansas at a 4-seed after the upset loss to Texas A&M.
*UPDATE* Lunardi updated his bracketology around 9 pm EST Saturday. In that update, Texas A&M has moved up into the “Last Four In” section alongside Virginia Tech. SMU and Xavier have slid out of the field.
