A well-known name in the college football media world, Ivan Maisel, was among the hundreds of layoffs at ESPN, he announced on Thursday.
Maisel said he was the first college football writer at ESPN.com hired on Nov. 5, 2002, and he tweeted that his contract would expire in January. Along with writing and on video, Maisel also established and hosted a college football podcast, and was integral in creating and producing the editorial, podcast and video content for the “College Football 150” project.
Maisel’s announcement brought a crush of reactions and well wishes from fans and other media members, and he had more than 200 replies to his tweet in the first 30 minutes after it was posted.
Earlier in the day, the New York Post reported that ESPN would layoff 300 people and not fill an additional 200 jobs.

ESPN is laying off 300 employees and will not fill 200 currently open positions.
