ESPN’s SP+ projects the score of every SEC Week 9 game
ESPN’s Bill Connelly has released his SP+picks for Week 12, using his patented formula to unveil not just which teams could win, but what the final score could be. SP+, according to Connelly, is ” a tempo- and opponent-adjusted measure of college football efficiency.” He developed the system in 2008, eventually ending up with ESPN, where they use it on a weekly basis to help project outcomes of games.
However, as he does every week when he releases his updated rankings, Connelly notes that SP+ “is not a résumé ranking that gives credit for big wins or particularly brave scheduling,” but “simply a measure of the most sustainable and predictable aspects of football”.
One interesting note about the SP+ score predictions: they have ended up 52% against the spread this year after last week’s games.
Here is the projected score of each SEC game this weekend, along with each team’s SP+ ranking:
- Alabama 43, Kentucky 15
- Florida 47, Vanderbilt 12
- Georgia 35, Mississippi State 13
- Auburn 32, Tennessee 19
- South Carolina 27, Missouri 26
- LSU 31, Arkansas 28

Yeah… everything looks good but three things.
1. The way Arkansas is playing compared to LSU, Arkansas will destroy them. Like, LSU lost to MISSOURI!
2. Isn’t obvious that Florida will be Vanderbilt more the just 35 points! (5 touchdowns).
3. Kentucky is trash. I’d give Bama a 47-0 win!
Alabama is going to hang a 50burger plus on poor Kentucky.
Collin Hill is trash, and the Gamecocks have no defense. Kevin Harris can’t play every position. Mizzou will beat South Carolina by three touchdowns.
Trask will get 6 TD’s. Pearce and Wright will get a rushing TD.
56-17 UF
Hey gator fans are you not forgetting you all had three freaking weeks because of your Covid vacation , if the conference made you all play the gators wouldn’t be in the position your in .
I’ll have you know My Wildcats have had to play two teams (Mizzu & UGA)who’ve had two or more weeks with Covid vacation byes and now we are getting a Bama team with a Three Week bye , What happens in Bama and Gainesville, May not be pretty but I believe that Sankey and the SEC better understand what the Cats have had to face with all these teams receiving Covid byes right before we have played them , plus a loss of a Great Position Assistant coach & The Cats haven’t missed a game on their schedule yet !
You do know Bama didn’t have a three week by right?
The most interesting game on the docket is the Arkansas-LSU game.
Georgia 28-7 MSU
Georgia scores 3 TD’s in one quarter and doesn’t look interested in the other 3 quarters, game tied at 7 early on causing overreactions everywhere.
Florida 52 – 10 Vandy
Florida has pity on Vandy and goes for a field goal on a drive instead of scoring a TD so their kicker can have some in game practice to prep for Bama.
LSU 27 – 35 Ark
LSU wants Joe back, but would also settle for having Myles Brennan back.
Kentucky 10 – 42 Bama
Bama puts the walk-ons in early to stay healthy.
Tenn 10 – 31 Auburn
Auburn defense looks more like an Auburn defense and Bo plays well enough to put some points on the board.
Whoops.
Mizzou 31 – 21 South Carolina
Mizzou pulls away in the second half, South Carolina plays with a lot of excitement early on because they ran Muschamp out of town only to get punished by Larry Rountree one too many times.
