The results of Week 6 had a big impact on both division races in the SEC. Alabama and Georgia remain undefeated, but the chase to each division leader has a different look after the LSU-Florida, Auburn-Mississippi State and Kentucky-Texas A&M games.
AP voters will have their hands full deciding which teams belong where based on records and resumes. ESPN’s Football Power Index rankings, on the other hand, are metric-based. The FPI, based on 10,000 simulations, is defined as “a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season.”
With the Week 6 dust settled, the updated FPI as of Sunday morning has eight SEC teams ranked in the top 25:
- No. 1 – Alabama
- No. 3 – Georgia
- No. 10 – Florida
- No. 13 – Mississippi State
- No. 15 – Auburn
- No. 16 – LSU
- No. 18 – Texas A&M
- No. 25 – Missouri
Just missing the cut is Kentucky at No. 26. The full rankings of all 130 FBS teams, including the rest of the SEC, can be found on ESPN’s website.
