ESPN’s Football Power Index had a good year in 2017. The website boasts that it was more accurate than other public model in its predictions.

Five SEC teams — Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, LSU and Mississippi State — finished ranked in the top 25, while six finished at No. 50 or below.

ESPN provides an explanation for the FPI on its website:

The Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 10,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule. Ratings and projections update daily.

The biggest surprise in the final rankings was Georgia finishing at No. 3 behind Ohio State, and although UCF beat Auburn in the Peach Bowl, the Knights finished ranked behind Auburn at No. 15, while the Tigers finished in the top 10. The FPI surely wouldn’t proclaim that the Knights are the National Champions.

Here’s where every SEC team finished ranked in ESPN’s FPI:

1. Alabama Crimson Tide
3. Georgia Bulldogs
9. Auburn Tigers
14. LSU Tigers
19. Mississippi State Bulldogs
34. South Carolina Gamecocks
39. Missouri Tigers
40. Texas A&M Aggies
50. Florida Gators
53. Ole Miss Rebels
58. Kentucky Wildcats
69. Arkansas Razorbacks
