The Gators’ only loss is about as respectable as it gets, a 35-28 defeat on the road at the hands of the only unbeaten team in the SEC, LSU. The Tigers, by the way, are ranked at No. 2 in the CFP rankings behind only Clemson.
There are 6 SEC teams ranked among the top 25. Florida is the 3rd-highest ranked one-loss team behind only Alabama at No. 4 and Notre Dame at No. 5.
Kirk Herbstreit had this to say via Twitter:
Herbie: 'We get so caught up with the SEC West. Florida just keeps winning football games.' Wonders if #Gators can move way up.

However, ESPN’s Rece Davis also questioned Florida’s placement.
#Gators No. 10 in the College Football Playoff rankings. ESPN's Rece Davis, 'I thought Florida would be a little bit higher.'

Florida has had a surprisingly successful season under first-year head coach Jim McElwain. The Gators started the season 6-0 before that lone defeat to LSU. UF was as high as No. 8 in the AP Poll before the loss.
The Gators are in position to clinch the SEC East with a win over Vanderbilt on Homecoming this Saturday.
The top 4 teams in the final CFP rankings will be released at noon ET on Dec. 6, and those teams will play for the national championship.
