A familiar name to many SEC football fans will be looking for a new job.

UTSA announced this week that Roadrunners defensive coordinator Tyrone Nix’s contract will not be renewed when it expires on Feb. 15.

“This decision is based on an overall evaluation, which included the outcome of an internal investigation that was initiated in November, as well as other factors,” UTSA Associate Vice President and Chief Communications Officer Joe Izbrand said in an email to Greg Luca of the San Antonio Express-News. “Consistent with our policy regarding personnel matters, we will not have any additional comment.”

Luca’s article notes that the program said Nix “is not performing any duties related to the team and is not on campus.” A former assistant at South Carolina, Ole Miss and Texas A&M, Nix had been placed on administrative leave in connection with an internal investigation at halftime of UTSA’s game against UTEP on Nov. 14, per Luca’s report. Safeties coach Jess Loepp called UTSA’s defensive plays for the team’s final three games.
