At first glance, the Arkansas-Mississippi State matchup this weekend shouldn’t be much a contest.

The Razorbacks are currently sitting at 6-4 — possessing one of the best quarterback-running back combinations in the conference. Mississippi State (4-6) is coming off of a 51-3 loss on the road to Alabama.

However when delving deeper, this game might be closer than many expect.

ESPN’s FPI has MSU with a 46.7-percent chance at winning the contest. Odds Shark has the game set as a pick ’em. In addition, Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema has not beaten Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen in three prior meetings between their respective teams.

ESPN GameDay’s Chris Fallica appeared on a local Fayetteville radio station Tuesday. He offered his thoughts on the contest:

This is a big game for Mississippi State. It has to win its last two contests to become bowl eligible.

With this contest being the last home game of the year, expect the crowd at Davis Wade Stadium to be wild and raucous. It wouldn’t be a shock to see Mullen pull out a trick or two when it comes to play-calling. He hasn’t been afraid in the past to be ballsy.
