Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson calls out SEC, Tennessee after bowl win over Kentucky
Georgia Tech had a great season when it came to playing SEC teams.
Coach Paul Johnson’s Yellow Jacket squad took down Vanderbilt 38-7 in Week 3, squeaked by Georgia 28-27 in the regular-season finale and earned a 33-18 win over Kentucky in Saturday’s TaxSlayer Bowl.
After the game, Johnson called out the SEC and put Tennessee on blast:
“We’re 3-0 in the SEC East and have Tennessee next.” – @GTPaulJohnson

Butch Jones and the Volunteers open the 2017 season against the Yellow Jackets in Atlanta on Sept. 4, 2017. Now, they’ll have plenty of motivation for that ACC-SEC showdown.
If the Vols lose to Johnson’s crew, it’ll be up to the Bulldogs to redeem themselves and their conference against their in-state rival on Nov. 25, 2017.
GT has the dirtiest team in CFP!!!! Tennessee will eat them alive!!!!
Upon what do you base either part of your assessment?
I hope he is right about the Tennessee part.
Still mad about the game huh?
One word… Vanderbilt
Tennessee loses a ton of talent. I wouldn’t be on them being very good in 2017.
Party like a rockstar Paul.
Paul Johnson is the biggest tool in college football.
Lol.
That’s funny.. until recently he’s been the SEC’s bitchN
Put Bama and LSU on that schedule and come talk to me Paul.
GT is that little brother that crows about winning once every 7-8 years.
When the SEC loses they always resort to history, GT beat you all this year and two years ago as well.
More ignorance from the mouth breathers of Uga,
Bless your heart!
That is a rare occurrence Dill-weed. Two years in a row! Wow! Is that all you got?
Your name fits.
Douche
Gotta give it to’em. They found a way to win all three games. Next season is a long way away though.
CKS pull up too soon and started playing not to lose, we know how often that turns out bad. Rookie mistake.
edit – pulled not pull.
Ok Georgia Bulldogs lets hope my Tennessee Vols and the dawgs make them 0-2 in 2017 against the SEC a conference they were in and ran from over 50 years ago
I love it when someone beats a lower tier SEC team and then crows like they just thumped Bama.
Get a life Dude; you beat 3 of the bottom teams in the conference. (Obviously, UGA doesn’t enjoy that distinction every year, but this year they were not very competitive.)
They crushed one of the teams that beat UT, and beat three SEC bowl teams. They earned the right to crow a little. UT will get their chance.
I was hoping for at least 8 or 9 wins this season due to having a freshman qb and a whole new coaching staff. We did get 8 and should have won possibly 2 or 3 more. We have a good shot at winning the east next year with everyone that is returning. Most of all I think we need the passion and unity to get the job done. Also, if Chaney is still the OC he is going to have to do a better job. Did he perform this bad when he was at UT?
Dawgbyte (re: Chaney and UT),
At UT Chaney did pretty well in terms of establishing a high powered offense. The problem was that it came at the expense of the run game and a more balanced offense (and if we’re being honest hurt the defense even tho’ UT’s defense was outrageously bad back then). UT also had a really special QB + WR/TE Corps when Chaney was there and all of the main players in the passing game, including Bray, wound up in the NFL.
BUT the lack of a running game or even an attempt to have one made UT very one-dimensional. It also created situations where the offense unintentionally hindered the defense because it scored too quickly and did nothing to wear out the opponent or rest the Vols’ defense.
Chaney is a very likable guy that everyone from boosters to players and coaches love but as an OC he’s pass happy and likely always will be given his playcalling at UT and Arky. He would benefit greatly from a head coach willing to rein him in but thus far I haven’t seen an HC succeed at that.
TBH, I was shocked that UGA hired him because UGA’s strengths are in the run game. However with Eason and some talent at WR, UGA can establish an envy worthy passing game. The problem is that such things stall and that in this day and age you really do have to be good or great to even have a chance against them.
tl;dr – UGA will be fine even with Chaney and his head-scratching calls and tendency to fall in love with the passing game while neglecting the running game.
Eh title of this is a tad misleading since GT does indeed play Tennessee next. Johnson’s just stating the truth there despite his cockiness. While UK certainly had a good year and UGA (which they also played) had a down year, it’s MORE than a stretch to imply they’re somehow taking on the East.
Besides, GT needs to remember it’s heritage, particularly the one who made them great. Surely they remember Dodd and where he came from and if not I truly pity them.
How bout y’all come to sec west n see who is the man now
That old buzzard needs to go on and retire and take his cheap shot, chop blocking, piece of crap team with him.
