Greg McElroy has a bold claim about one of the strongest teams in the SEC.
In a conversation with Colin Cowherd on Tuesday night, McElroy identified Ole Miss as a team that remains “undervalued” in the college football landscape.
The Rebels have a strong win over Georgia on their résumé, but they also have a couple of glaring losses to Kentucky and LSU. But in McElroy’s mind, the upside Ole Miss has is immense.
McElroy excused those defeats as consequence of the culture that Ole Miss has as a result of being so aggressive in the transfer portal.
“Ole Miss has a bit of a unique circumstance surrounding their program and the way they’ve compiled their roster,” he said. “I think in the regular season, and I think Lane [Kiffin] would admit this, Ole Miss’s culture is something that is going to be a challenge.
“Having guys that are just universally invested in the place. Because they’ve been there for 6 months, how do you develop any type of appeal for the community, for the university … so as a result, I thought that there would be games this year that would be close because guys weren’t going to be all-in on a week-to-week basis. That happened against Kentucky and it also happened against LSU. They had no business losing either game.”
However, McElroy doesn’t see those same concerns for the Rebels in a playoff setting.
“I’ve seen them at their best and I’ve seen them at their worst,” McElroy said. “And I’m telling you, you do not want to see them at their best. They are that good.”
Here’s a clip of McElroy’s full analysis:

“They have defensive linemen who can take over the game at three different positions. If you can do that… you’re cooking… pic.twitter.com/5sN4JOuwsS
