Greg McElroy is doing his best to prepare SEC fans for a few key teams getting left out of the race to the national title. The college football world is getting closer to the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff, and that means that chaos is going to ensue.
One conference that is lining up for mayhem is the SEC. Currently, the conference has 6 teams with 2 losses or less in SEC play. Only Texas and Texas A&M have 1 conference loss, and those 2 teams play in College Station in Week 14.
Lane Kiffin said on Monday that there are coaches in the conference who don’t want their teams to play in the SEC Championship Game as it could hurt or eliminate them from the CFP race. On Tuesday, former Alabama quarterback and current ESPN analyst Greg McElroy said it is about to get wild in the SEC.
“The SEC is about to be crazy, and there is going to be a really good SEC team with just 2 losses this year, maybe 2 (teams), that is left out of the College Football Playoff,” McElroy said. “And people are going to be losing their minds. I’m just telling you, there are not enough spots to go around.
“We thought 10-2 — Yep, you go 10-2, you’re in — not anymore, man. Not in this season. So I wonder what (the committee) will be valuing.”
With so many teams looking like they will be tied in the conference standings, fans across the country are about to learn all of the tiebreaker scenarios in the conference.
