Greg Sankey was thrust into the middle of a kerfuffle between Alabama coach Nick Saban and Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher this offseason.

The issue, as many fans will remember, was Saban making a claim that Fisher and the Aggies bought their historic 2022 recruiting class, setting off a weeklong media battle.

Sankey appeared on the “Dan Patrick Show” on Tuesday and was asked who he called first when the interview started to go viral, but Sankey laughed and said people came to him pretty quickly after Saban’s interview:

“Actually, they come to me rather quickly,” he said. “I was in New York City. It was 11 p.m. in New York and one of my staff said you need to know about this interview (that Saban gave). I didn’t really sleep well that night because it’s a bit of a kidney punch knowing that I’ll have to deal with it.

“Then it starts with phone calls the next morning, speaking to both athletic directors. Talked to listened to both coaches, and I said here’s what we’re going to have to do and it kind of escalated through the day.”

Things seem to have settled down a bit now, but that feud between Saban and Fisher will be remembered in the SEC for a while.
