Greg Sankey doubts College Football Playoff expansion will happen before 2026

The college football playoff is expanding to include 12 teams.
And SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said Saturday he doesn’t think the Board of Managers will be able to implement the expansion until at least 2026, as originally reported.
“If history’s a lesson to help us understand the future, it won’t be easy,” Sankey said Saturday. “But minds change, motivations change.”
The move to 12 teams will be a logistical challenge. There are TV deals, host cities and school scheduling to maneuver. It’s true that has been talk of pushing an early launch date of 2024 among the board, but this decision differed from the pause put on expansion talks in February.
“There’s a bunch of moving parts. That’s where I wish we could have used the last nine months to work through those issues,” Sankey said. “We’ll have to accelerate our consideration to make it happen sooner rather than later.”
