Here's how much it would cost to buyout Jim McElwain and Butch Jones
The race is on in the SEC East between Florida and Tennessee. Not the race for Atlanta, as many Gator and Volunteer fans may have thought during the offseason, but a race to move on from their current coaches and land the next guy to lead their respective programs.
In an all too familiar sight, both teams lost this weekend: Florida to Georgia by a 42-7 margin and Tennessee to Kentucky by a final score of 29-26.
Reports suggest both coaches could be out of a job by Sunday following Saturday’s results. The main question now is which coach will be gone first.
While both programs appear set to move on from their respective coaches, there are still financials to be worked out. According to ESPN’s Darren Rovell, here’s what it would cost each school to buyout the coaches — if both guys get their full buyouts based on their current contracts:
Estimated Buyouts As Of Today: Jim McElwain, $12.76M & Butch Jones, $8.33M.
