Georgia great Herschel Walker said he supports Mark Richt against criticism from Bulldogs fans who want the coach fired at the end of the season.

Walker also said that Richt would not be fired this year.

“Mark Richt’s been a great coach over many years,” Walker said on yahoo.com sports radio.  “There’s no doubt I’d love to see Georgia win an SEC championship. I’d love to see Georgia get into the final four for the national championship. But that’s not going to happen.”

Walker said Richt’s track record is good enough to weather a disappointing season.

“He’s given us great football over the last couple years,” Walker said. “There’s a lot of great coaches. There aren’t a lot of real great coaches. Right now, we still have one.”

Walker said a good recruiting season would be important toward helping Georgia rebound quickly. The Bulldogs are No. 7 in the latest 247 Sports 2016 recruiting rankings.
