Police got involved at a high school football game in Alabama between Minor High School and P.D. Jackson-Olin High School.

Birmingham Police officers said Thursday night that both bands continued to perform as the stadium cleared out, and the officers asked both band directors to stop playing. However, Minor’s band was instructed to keep playing, according to CBS42.

That’s when events escalated. Officers tried to take the band director, Johnny Mims, into custody for disorderly conduct when a fight began, WTVM-13 reported.

During the fight, officers attempted to get Mims to put his hands behind his back, and an officer tased the band director after he allegedly pushed him.

Police said Mims refused to place his hands behind his back and allegedly pushed an officer who subsequently deployed a stun gun on him before taking him into custody.

Mims was taken to UAB Hospital and then Birmingham City Jail where he was charged with disorderly conduct, harassment and resisting arrest.

“We are aware of the incident that occurred after the Minor and Jackson-Olin football game,” wrote Jefferson County Schools Superintendent Walter Gonsoulin in a statement. “I am in the process of gathering all the facts and feel it would be inappropriate to comment further until that process is complete. I urge everyone not to jump to conclusions.”
