Every year, big-name college football programs pay lesser opponents hefty sums to come play at their home stadiums and take a beating.

However, sometimes those underdogs don’t get the memo and end up pulling off impressive victories.

According to ESPN’s Darren Rovell, on Saturday, for the first time ever, three teams that paid $1 million or more lost their games against lesser opponents:

Northwestern, Nebraska and Arkansas will all go back to the drawing board following these tough losses, but they’ll do so with lighter checkbooks.

Meanwhile, Akron, Troy and North Texas will be laughing all the way to the bank.
