Hugh Freeze’s first staff at Liberty will have some SEC flavor.

Tanner Burns, who played at Ole Miss and has worked the past five years as a special teams quality control assistant at Arkansas, is heading to Liberty to become Freeze’s special teams coordinator. The son of former Arkansas player and defensive coordinator Keith Burns, Tanner arrived at Arkansas in 2014 after working as a coaching intern with the Oakland Raiders. Tanner Burns graduated from Ole Miss, where he played free safety after transferring from San Jose State. He made two tackles for the Rebels in 2012.

Burns announced the news in a note posted to his Twitter account where he reflected on his time in Fayetteville.
