Hungry for cupcakes? This weekend's CFB slate is historically weak
If you have projects around the house to do, or want to escape on a camping trip, this weekend may have just the college football schedule to give you incentive to do so.
This is the first without a game involving two ranked teams since Oct. 14, 2017, according to the Associated Press’ Ralph D. Russo. Of course, there are some matchups that may be interesting, including No. 2 Alabama at South Carolina, and No. 9 Florida at Kentucky. But both underdogs are starting backup quarterbacks who are new to their team and making either their first or second start with their current program.
Much of the rest of the SEC faces the likes of Kent State, Arkansas State, Northwestern State, Southeast Louisiana, Southeast Missouri, Chattanooga and Lamar.
For national championship contender Clemson, its schedule is like this largely for the rest of the season. Clemson only had two preseason Top 25 teams on their schedule to begin with, and the Tigers easily dispatched of one of them, Texas A&M, on Saturday in a 24-10 decision. The other team was Syracuse, who the Tigers travel to on Saturday, and it lost 63-20 to Maryland on Saturday.
To find other interesting matchups is to go the rivalry route, such as Pitt at No. 13 Penn State, or what ESPN’s “College GameDay” chose for its Saturday morning destination, No. 19 Iowa at Iowa State.
Since there are ranked teams going on the road, there is a slight uptick in upset chances. However, this may be the kind of week where since not much is expected, there could be a monumental development unfold such as a big upset.
