Jamey Chadwell has been ruled out of contention for the Mississippi State job, 247Sports’ Brandon Marcello reported Wednesday.

Chadwell was named as a potential candidate after Zach Arnett’s firing last week, but it seems the Liberty coach won’t be heading to Starkville anytime soon. Chadwell was hired at Liberty ahead of the 2023 season after a successful 3-year stint at Coastal Carolina. In his first season at Liberty, he has led the Flames to a perfect 11-0 record, and they’ll be looking for a win over New Mexico State on Saturday to close out a perfect season.

Arnett was fired at Mississippi State less than a year after he took over as head coach following Mike Leach’s death. Arnett led Mississippi State to a win in its bowl game last season, but then went 4-6 in his first season as head coach.

Greg Knox is serving as interim head coach of the Bulldogs and he picked up a win over Southern Miss last week. Now, Mississippi State is looking for a win over Ole Miss to close out the season.
