Kirby Smart appeared on the Pat McAfee Show on Friday afternoon ahead of Georgia’s marquee matchup vs. Tennessee.

Smart spoke on a variety of topics while on the show, but was particularly insightful when discussing the challenges that come with facing Tennessee’s uptempo offense.

“It’s tough because you have to change your defense to play against them,” Smart said. “There’s plays and defenses we haven’t called all year that we [will] against them because they’re very different. They’re fast. They have huge splits. And everybody knows that. So you get to watch other people play against them and you’re trying to get ideas of how you want to play against them.

“But they go so fast that they limit what you can do. You’ve got to try to beat them back to the ball, get lined up, out-execute them, and this year they have been different.”

Here’s video of Smart’s comments:

Tennessee does like to play fast. Despite running the ball frequently with Dylan Sampson out of the backfield, the Vols rank 5th nationally in plays per game, according to Game on Paper.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday night in Athens.
