Kirk Herbstreit made the rounds on Saturday night after he went on a rant about the Ohio State fanbase and how people across the country have treated Ryan Day. After the Buckeyes lost to Michigan for the 4th straight year, fans and media outlets have been calling for Day to lose his job.
Herbstreit even went at his ESPN colleagues at First Take, and had this to say about them on Saturday night.
“First Take tried to fire him, they thought he was done,” Herbstreit added. “So I’m excited to see what they talk about on Monday after this performance. They had him out. They were trying to find replacements. But here he is, he’s still got his hat on. He’s still coaching.”
Well, his comments were heard by the First Take crew, and Shannon Sharpe had quite the response.
“If we’re going to be on the same team, if we’re gonna work for the same network, don’t do that,” Sharpe said on Monday on First Take. “Kirk, Chris Fowler, I promise you, if you ever mention any platform that I’m on again talking about ‘I wonder what they’re going to say as negativity,’ I promise you, ESPN ain’t got enough bosses to keep me off y’all for what I’m going to say… don’t play with me.”
Herbstreit is a former Ohio State player, but Sharpe was not willing to just sit back and take that as a colleague of the former Buckeye. The Buckeyes will be in the CFP quarterfinals against Oregon in a rematch of 1 of the best games of the 2024 season.
