Kirk Herbstreit is locked in when it comes to analyzing the SEC, and there are some huge matchups in the league in Week 7.
On Saturday morning, the College GameDay analyst offered his take on the big showdown between Texas A&M and Tennessee on Rocky Top.
Per Herbstreit, the matchup to watch on Saturday afternoon is Texas A&M’s defense against Tennessee’s offense. He explained that QB Joe Milton and the Vols are going to need to hit some deep shots to keep the Aggies’ run defense honest:
“Huge game. For Texas A&M, obviously they came close again against Bama, unable to close it. Now they gotta go on the road with that defense,” Herbstreit said. “That defense you know — that’s maybe the matchup of Saturday, is watching Tennessee’s up-tempo offense against one of the better defenses in the country.
“What’s interesting about Tennessee is last year we saw this offense prolific in their ability to spread you out and take deep shots down the middle with Hendon Hooker downfield. This year, they don’t have that same ability to attack. Now Bru McCoy is out for the year, who’s going to step up on the perimeter? Rece talked about the running game. Is that enough against this A&M defense? They’re going to have to make some plays in the vertical pass game.”
