Kirk Herbstreit explains how Auburn can limit big plays from Joe Burrow and LSU's offense
The Auburn Tigers face the unenviable task of going into Baton Rouge to take on the LSU Tigers on Saturday afternoon.
LSU’s offense has looked unstoppable this season, but Auburn’s defensive line is unlike anything LSU has faced so far.
On Saturday morning’s edition of SportsCenter, analyst Kirk Herbstreit said that Auburn’s defensive line would be the biggest key to limiting LSU’s explosive plays:
“Auburn has what nobody has had up to this point — they can get pressure with four (rushers),” Herbstreit said. “We’ve really not seen that, because when Florida played them, they had some injuries up front. They had to get creative with blitzing. When you blitz, you man-to-man against an offense that welcomes that pressure. I think Kevin Steele, the defensive coordinator from Auburn, will see if he can win up front with an outstanding defensive line with Derrick Brown, Marlon Davidson and company.
“Can they get pressure on Burrow and still be able to sit back and protect themselves from the big play? What that would do is it would have to force LSU to be more patient with underneath throws, more about their running game and seeing if they can execute in the red zone, which last week against Mississippi State their first three trips down in the red zone, they got three field goals. So, I think that’s something to keep an eye on. Can Auburn get pressure and win the line of scrimmage without having to blitz?”
