ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit evidently has concerns about Clemson playing without Trevor Lawrence, or the Tigers struggling to get past Boston College.

However he sees it, Herbstreit dropped Clemson from No. 1 to No. 3 this week, as he ranked Alabama at No. 1, and Ohio State at No. 2, while he kept Georgia at No. 4 in his rankings typically released each Sunday. Notre Dame and BYU were also listed as the “next 2” teams to be in the mix.

A lot will be revealed this week as Georgia faces Florida in an SEC East showdown and possible determination of the team that has the best chance to knock off Alabama in the SEC Championship. Clemson also faces Notre Dame in one of the best and only monumental games left outside of the SEC.

No matter, the fourth team in most analysts’ top four is up for serious debate during the second half of the season. Georgia can go a long way toward locking up its spot with a win over Florida to keep its only loss being at Alabama in terms of strength of schedule. A Florida win could setup a big X and O showdown between Kyle Trask and Kyle Pitts and the vaunted Alabama defense.
