Two SEC coaches made an impression on ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit this weekend, as the pair made his top coaching performances of Week 8.

Herbstreit tweeted his list of six on Monday and included Vanderbilt head coach Derek Mason and Florida head coach Dan Mullen on it. It also included Illinois’ Lovie Smith, Oregon’s Mario Cristobal, Georgia Tech’s Geoff Collins and Baylor’s Matt Rhule.

Mason led the Commodores to a 21-14 upset win over Missouri, which was ranked No. 22 entering the matchup. With the game tied in the fourth quarter, Vanderbilt took the lead on a 21-yard touchdown pass from Riley Neal to Cam Johnson with 8 minutes, 57 seconds to go, and the Commodores held on for the big home victory.

Mullen helped Florida avoid an upset loss on the road. The Gators beat South Carolina, 38-27, but it took a big fourth quarter to do so. Trailing by three points entering the fourth, Florida scored three touchdowns in a span of 5:52 to take an 18-point lead with 4:02 remaining.

It was a big win for the Gators as they were coming off a loss to No. 2 LSU. Had they lost again, they would have been on a two-game losing streak entering their home game against No. 10 Georgia on Nov. 2, which comes after their bye week.

Vanderbilt is also entering its bye week. But the Commodores will look to build momentum off their first SEC win of the season when they travel to play South Carolina on Nov. 2.
