Kirk Herbstreit gave a pair of SEC teams some love as he released his top-performing college football teams from Week 6.

Tennessee, fresh off a win at LSU, came in at No. 3 for Herbstreit. The No. 6 Volunteers are now 5-0 after a 40-13 rout of the Tigers in Death Valley, with Josh Heupel’s team, which holds its highest ranking since 2005, set to face No. 1 Alabama at Neyland Stadium on Oct. 15.

At No. 4 was South Carolina, which defeated Kentucky 24-14 at Kroger Field in Lexington. It was the first time Shane Beamer had beaten a ranked opponent, and the Gamecocks’ first road win over the Wildcats since 2012. Next up for South Carolina is Texas A&M, a team it has yet to beat in 8 tries since the Aggies joined the SEC.

Topping Herbstreit’s list, though, was (unsurprisingly) Texas. The Longhorns faced Oklahoma in the Red River Showdown on Saturday at the Cotton Bowl and completely dismantled the Sooners, 49-0. It was their most lopsided win in the history of the annual rivalry series between future SEC foes and the Sooners’ worst shutout loss in program history.
