Kirk Herbstreit thinks it’s too early name a final four, but he has a good idea of the eight teams most likely to make it to the College Football Playoff this season.

The ESPN analyst and College GameDay host was asked for his playoff teams on Twitter by a fan. He named eight contenders, including Alabama and LSU.

Herbstreit sees last year’s four (Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Washington) as possibilities to make the cut again, with FSU, Penn State, USC and LSU as the other most likely teams. Of the eight teams, LSU is the only team which did not make a New Year’s Six bowl last season. Herbstreit is clearly high on the coaching staff Ed Orgeron has assembled in Baton Rouge.

Earlier this spring, Herbstreit predicted that Alabama and Florida State would be ranked No. 1 and No. 2 when they meet in Week 1. The College Football Playoff has yet to feature a rematch of a regular-season contest, but with the Crimson Tide and Seminoles both able to potentially win their conference despite an opening-week loss in Atlanta, a second meeting in the postseason is certainly possible.
