Who found themselves among Kirk Herbstreit’s top-performing coaches from Week 7 of the college football season? The ESPN college football analyst dropped his latest list on Monday and, as is usually the case, it included an SEC coach or 2.

And as it turns out, Ed Orgeron topped Herbstreit’s list this time around following LSU’s win over Florida on Saturday. Of course, it was announced on Sunday that Orgeron will not return for the 2022 season but will be on the sidelines for the remainder of the Tigers’ games this year.

Another SEC coach, Lane Kiffin, came in at No. 4. Ole Miss hung on for a 31-26 win over Tennessee in the former Volunteer head coach’s return to Knoxville since his controversial departure for USC in 2010. That one included some headlines off the playing field, as the University of Tennessee was fined a quarter of a million dollars after Vols fans pelted the field with debris in the 4th quarter, causing a 20-minute delay.

Utah’s Kyle Whittingham and Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy were also on Herbstreit’s list, as were Washington State’s Nick Rolovich, Louisiana-Monroe’s Terry Bowden, N.C. State’s Dave Doeren, and Purdue’s Jeff Brohm.
