Kirk Herbstreit is highlighting a pair of SEC players in his Week 8 list of the nation’s top performers.
Mizzou’s Brady Cook and Georgia’s Jalon Walker lead the list of 6 players and 1 unit. Mario Anderson Jr. (Memphis), Sawyer Robertson (Baylor) Bryson Daily (Army), Antwan Powell-Ryland (Virginia Tech) and the Colorado defensive line also made Herbstreit’s weekly list.

Cook at No. 1 may surprise some fans who did not watch Mizzou’s win over Auburn. The Tiger quarterback was not responsible for a touchdown, going 11-of-22 passing for 194 yards while logging 8 rushes with a long of 14. Cook, though, delivered a gutsy performance to keep Mizzou’s College Football Playoff hopes alive.
In the 1st half of Saturday’s game, Cook left with a non-contact injury. Mizzou coach Eli Drinkwtiz revealed after the game that Cook visited the hospital for his injury, but was determined to get back on the field. Cook returned and helped the Tigers score 15 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to win 21-17, improving to 6-1 on the year.
Walker delivered a performance for the ages in the national spotlight. The standout defender went to work helping the UGA defense shut down the Texas offense in the 1st half.
The Longhorns had not allowed a defensive player to record 7 tackles and 3 sacks in a game in 20 years. Walker did it in the first half. He added another tackle in the 2nd half as Georgia secured a 30-15 victory over the top-ranked team in the country.
