Two SEC teams in the College Football Playoff this year is far from a given.

Two undefeated teams remain — Alabama and LSU, along with three one-loss teams — Auburn, Florida and Georgia. Along with those five contenders, Ohio State, Clemson, Oklahoma and Penn State area all undefeated and must be considered Playoff teams. Obviously, there’s a lot of season left to play; so, things will change. Ohio State plays Penn State, and one of them will have one loss.

The Alabama-LSU game is massive on so many levels with multiple Playoff scenarios. What if Tua Tagovailoa isn’t healthy enough to play? What if he plays and is clearly limited? What if the game is high scoring and the loser proves it is still Playoff worthy?

Well, Kirk Herbstreit only sees one scenario in which the SEC gets two teams in the Playoff this year.

“If LSU were to lose in a hard-fought, high-scoring game in Tuscaloosa and LSU finishes 11-1 and they’ve got that Texas win in Austin, that would potentially be the only chance I could see two teams going from one conference,” Herbstreit said on College GameDay.

If Alabama were to lose to LSU, Herbstreit argued that the Tide’s resume is too weak to garner a Playoff spot.

“What’s Alabama have? They don’t have the resume,” Herbstreit said. “They’ve had better non-conference games in the past. This is Duke — they (Alabama) didn’t play anybody in the non-conference schedule. I think Alabama needs to win out.”

“But Alabama is Alabama,” Corso argued in favor of the Tide.

Chris Fallica also echoed Herbstreit’s comments.

“I think if Alabama loses at home to LSU, no shot this year (at the Playoff).”

It’ll be interesting to see how things play out the rest of the way.
