Kirk Herbstreit is out with his top 4 teams after Week 4, and he has a pair of Big Ten teams in the grouping.
Herbstreit pegged Georgia at No. 1, followed by Ohio State, Alabama and Michigan, with Clemson and Southern Cal on the outside looking in. Herbstreit flipped the Buckeyes over Alabama, as he evidently was impressed by the Ohio State blowout of Wisconsin, 52-21.
Georgia struggled at times to take care of Kent State, as the Bulldogs won 39-22, but the Golden Flashes put up more points than the 3 previous opponents did combined.
Alabama finally satisfied Nick Saban by playing to the Crimson Tide standard for the first time all season in a comfortable win over Vanderbilt. Meanwhile, Michigan escaped the Maryland game with a 34-27 win after it was tied after the first quarter, and the Wolverines pulled ahead at halftime, 17-13. It helped that the Terrapins gave up 3 turnovers.
Clemson will have a chance this week to move into the top 4 with a formidable opponent in N.C. State, while Southern Cal continues to be the team to watch on the West Coast.
