Kirk Herbstreit had a zany reaction for a zany SEC football game.

The ESPN college football analyst was all over the LSU-South Carolina showdown on Saturday afternoon in Columbia, which had so many twists and turns that Herbstreit felt the need to put his dog into the mix.

The 16th-ranked Tigers prevailed, 36-33, on a 2-yard touchdown run by Josh Williams with 1:12 left. LSU had rallied from a 17-0 deficit in the 2nd quarter to take a 29-24 lead early in the 4th quarter, before South Carolina answered minutes later by taking a 33-29 lead.

“What a game,” Herbstreit wrote in a social media post. “Game could have gone either direction. Some tough calls late in the game that I’m sure many will be talking about for some time.”

Herbstreit then congratulated LSU on the hard-earned victory and wished South Carolina good luck for the rest of the season.

But he wasn’t quite done.

Herbstreit included a photo of his dog, Ben, who was watching from back home. Or maybe he wasn’t really watching the feverish action in Columbia.

“This was Ben’s vantage point from back home,” said Herbstreit.

If Ben wasn’t watching and instead catching some extra sleep, he missed a classic SEC battle that went right down to the wire.
