Kirk Herbstreit reacts to sluggish first half between Georgia and Texas

Kirk Herbstreit is in Atlanta to call the SEC Championship Game between Georgia and Texas. Though a pair of top-5 teams are involved, it hasn’t been pretty, to say the least.
A trio of field goals, a missed field goal, plenty of costly drops from both teams and a slew of penalties against the Longhorns led to a lackluster half of football. At the break, the Longhorns hold a 6-3 lead, but neither team has to feel great about their prospects across the first 30 minutes.
Late in the first half, Herbstreit was asked during a break in the game how he felt about the contest, and he attributed the low-scoring nature to some strong defensive units while also acknowledging miscues were involved.
“I feel like it’s a combination of some really good defense, a lot of hard-hitting and then miscues,” explained Herbstreit. “Texas has had plenty of chances, missed opportunities when they’ve gotten into the positive areas of the field.”
As for the second half, Herbstreit said to watch for the Bulldogs making some key adjustments under Kirby Smart:
“One thing about Georgia: They know how to make adjustments. I know their receivers are struggling, but it’s not like they’re incapable of making plays,” said Herbstreit.
Those comments were delivered before the final play of the half which is notable with Georgia quarterback Carson Beck getting hit on the arm. He was in visible pain, and Beck’s status will be a major question mark coming out of halftime.
