Kirk Herbstreit, as he does every week, named his list of the top performing coaches from Week 8 Monday evening.
No SEC coaches cracked Herbstreit’s list this time around. Instead, the majority hail from the B1G.
Here’s the full list, headlined by Virginia’s Tony Elliot for a huge top 10 win over North Carolina. Nobody saw that one coming:
Here are my top performing coaches of WEEK 8:

As always, defense triumphs in the Big Ten. Jim Knowles’ Ohio State defense was perhaps the most impressive unit in the country this weekend.
The Buckeyes downed Penn State 20-12. The Nittany Lions, for reference, were averaging over 40 points per game heading into Week 8’s clash. QB Drew Allar looked very uncomfortable throughout and though they were able to get some things running well in the run game early, the Nittany Lions became one-dimensional quickly.
And Herbstreit just had to give Utah HC Kyle Whittingham his flowers. The Utes essentially own Southern California at this point, having beaten USC twice last season (including the Pac-12 title game) and once again Saturday night with a walk-off field goal.
Whittingham is working without starting QB Cam Rising and has led the Utes to an uber-impressive 6-1 record regardless. We’ll see how for real the Utes are this weekend against Oregon in SLC.
