Kirk Herbstreit appeared on ESPN airwaves on Sunday morning to help preview the final College Football Playoff rankings reveal.

ESPN’s Mike Greenberg asked Herbstreit whether or not “it would be fair” to punish SMU for losing its conference championship game by leaving it out of the College Football Playoff.

Rather than answer the question, Herbstreit deflected and said he’s learned to not have opinions following the way he was treated by Florida State fans after last year’s rankings reveal.

“After last year, I’ve learned, I have no opinions about anything,” Herbstreit said. “I think everybody gets a trophy. Everybody gets in. I want no death threats, I want no punishment for 8 months from #FSUTwitter. So I have no opinion on anything. I love everybody.”

Herbstreit’s comments are (at least somewhat) tongue-in-cheek, but he did have quite the run-in with Florida State fans after last year’s final rankings reveal. Herbstreit famously supported leaving the Noles out of the 4-team field despite having a 13-0 record, which is ultimately what happened.

Herbstreit ultimately predicted SMU will get the nod over Alabama for the final at-large berth. The official rankings will be revealed in a selection show starting at 12 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon.

Here’s video of Herbstreit’s comments:
