At least one person believes LSU-Auburn could provide a tight contest on Saturday.

The Auburn Tigers struggled early this season but found their stride at the beginning of SEC play. Auburn is 3-0 in the SEC this season (5-1 overall) and looking strong. The offense has scored at least 44 points in every SEC game while outscoring opponents 144-23 in those games.

LSU has struggled this year with a number of inconsistencies. The Tigers are 4-2 with losses to Mississippi State and Troy. Ed Orgeron and the Tigers did get a close win over Florida, but LSU will need to be better to beat Auburn.

Auburn is up to No. 10 in the AP Poll and has a favorable schedule moving forward. The Tigers must play No. 4 Georgia and No. 1 Alabama, but those are their only remaining games against opponents that are currently ranked.

It will be tempting for Auburn fans and players to begin looking ahead at those two tough matchups, but ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit says this weekend’s game at LSU could prove to be a close one.

Herbstreit made his comments during The Home Depot Gameplan Breakdown:

“I think the game that maybe ends up being the game of the week? LSU-Auburn,” said Herbstreit “Auburn has to be careful…they better take care of business against a newfound, confident team in LSU.”

Herbstreit gives credit to LSU for fighting back and not quitting in the win over Florida on the road. LSU still has a chance to post a strong season, but the team is still looking for a marquee win.

Saturday’s kickoff is set for 3:30 pm EST on CBS.
