Kirk Herbstreit received an outpouring of condolences and support as he publicly mourned the loss of his beloved dog, Ben, last month. It came as no surprise that many in the world of football reached out to Herbstreit. The long-time broadcaster revealed Wednesday that President Joe Biden also reached out with a personal note to the broadcaster.

“Dear Kirk,

“I was so sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved Ben,” Biden’s note reads.

“Ben brought so much comfort and unconditional love to millions of Americans across our Nation. In your most joyful moments and most grief-stricken days, he was there, sensitive to every unspoken feeling and emotion.

“I know what it is like to lose a beloved pet, and I hope you can find some comfort in cherishing the beautiful memories you shared with Ben. He was a good boy.”

Herbstreit announced the loss of Ben on Nov. 7. An emotional College GameDay followed days later in which the show aired a tribute to Ben narrated by Herbstreit and many fans in Baton Rouge brought Ben-themed signs to campus.
