Kirk Herbstreit was on-hand for LSU’s incredible 45-38 win over Texas.

Herbstreit, Rece Davis and Maria Taylor had the call on ABC Saturday night, and Herbie came away very impressed with the Tigers and Joe Burrow. Burrow finished with 471 yards passing and four touchdowns. It’s been a while since we’ve seen an LSU quarterback play that well.

During the actual broadcast near the end of the game, Herbstreit said about LSU, “You can make a strong claim that they’re No. 1 right now.” He asked if one could rank them over Alabama at the moment. He then mentioned that LSU could be ranked No. 2 or No. 3 right now.

Well, Herbstreit has dropped his updated top four teams, and LSU did indeed jump into the mix. However, he had the Tigers ranked No. 4.

Clemson topped Herbstreit’s rankings at No. 1 followed by Alabama at No. 2. Ohio State, behind two impressive performances by Justin Fields, is ranked No. 3. The ESPN analyst also lists Georgia in his “next 2,” as the Bulldogs have started 2-0 with wins over Vanderbilt and Murray State.
