Netflix series 'Last Chance U' announces major change to show's format, releases trailer for upcoming season release
Football fans of the Netflix series “Last Chance U” better soak up the upcoming season of the show, as it will be the final season featuring junior college football.
According to an update from the official “Last Chance U” Twitter account, the fifth season of the show featuring Laney College in California will be the last season that plans to follow around a football team. For the show’s sixth season, “Last Chance U” is planning to follow an unnamed basketball program.
The fifth season of “Last Chance U” is set to debut on Netflix on July 28. Oakland-based Laney College was selected as the program that would be followed by Netflix around this time last year.
If you were unaware, California junior college football is a bit different than other states. California junior colleges do not give athletic scholarships and are only permitted to play other California junior college programs — they cannot play programs from other states.
Veteran coach John Beam leads the Laney College program and won CCCAA Football Coach of the Year honors in 2018 and led the program to an 11-2 record the year before Netflix arrived to chronicle the program’s 2019 season.
Here’s the update from “Last Chance U,” including a new trailer for season five of the show.
