We all know the Southeastern Conference is the nation’s best football conference but if you look over the list of opening day starters for Major League Baseball’s return, it’s easy to see why the SEC has gained a strong reputation as the nation’s best baseball conference, too.

Major League Baseball is making its return on Wednesday and five pitchers from SEC schools are scheduled to start.

Here is the list:

  • Max Scherzer, Nationals (Missouri)
  • Sonny Gray, Reds (Vanderbilt)
  • Aaron Nola, Phillies (LSU)
  • Brandon Woodruff, Brewers (Mississippi State)
  • Lance Lynn, Rangers (Ole Miss)

Of course, Scherzer left Mizzou before the school joined the SEC but we still get to count him as playing for a program that is now a league member.
