A top-15 team is likely exiting the polls. Old Dominion knocked off No. 13 Virginia Tech 49-35 on Saturday.

Old Dominion, out of Conference USA, entered the game 0-3. While it might look like a “cupcake” game for the Hokies, Old Dominion was actually the home team in the game, certainly a factor in the Monarchs massive upset.

Virginia Tech entered the season ranked No. 20 and climbed in the polls after defeating No. 19 Florida State in Week 1. With both teams struggling, the game may be viewed much differently as the seasons moves on. The Hokies were unable to play their Week 3 game due to Hurricane Florence.

Bud Foster is one of college football’s most prominent defensive coordinators, but this is a game Virginia Tech’s defense will hope to forget. Old Dominion quarterback Blake LaRussa went 30-of-49 passing for 495 yards and four touchdowns.

Old Dominion held tight with Virginia Tech from start to finish. It was a 28-point fourth quarter that ultimately put the Monarchs on top.

Old Dominion RB Jeremy Cox ran for a 40-yard touchdown to seal the deal 49-35.
