It looks like we could be in for a lot of coaching changes in the SEC this season.

We already know that Florida and Ole Miss are looking for a head coach, but it is a strong possibility that other schools will decide to make a change this year.

ESPN analyst and former LSU DL Booger McFarland addressed the issue at a recent event in Mobile, Alabama, and he sees at least six schools that might be looking for a new coach this year. Creg Stephenson with AL.com shared Mcfarland’s comments, and he believes  Arkansas, Tennessee, and Texas A&M could also decide to make a change.

None of these changes would come as much of a surprise. Butch Jones, Bret Bielema, and Kevin Sumlin have all been on the hot seat throughout this season. The Razorbacks and Volunteers have struggled for much of the season while the Aggies have come up short in a number of big games.

Those five schools making a change would not be a surprise, but McFarland believes another job could open up this season. He does not see it as a sure thing that Gus Malzahn remains at Auburn beyond this season:

“We talk about him winning out, but let’s just say he loses to Georgia and loses to Alabama,” McFarland said. “Now he’s 8-4. (Athletic director) Jay Jacobs is retiring. It just doesn’t seem like it would be a good spot for him when the AD resigns, and he’s been on the hot seat. I just think that would be uneasy for him.”

Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen has also been linked to the Florida position which would open up another spot in the SEC, but McFarland doesn’t know if Mullen would take the job:

“I don’t know if he wants it,” McFarland said. “He’ll have a chance to get another job. They’re going to make it tough for him to leave How many teams will change coaches this year?Mississippi State, though.”

Either way, it looks like fans are in for a busy offseason with coaching changes.
