Missouri quarterback Maty Mauk has been reinstated from his suspension, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and new head coach Barry Odom says he’ll be part of the team when classes resume next semester.

Drew Lock will open spring practices as the No. 1 quarterback. The Tigers went 2-6 over the final eight games of the season, all games in which Lock started after Mauk’s suspension.

“We met and I spent some time with (Mauk) not too long ago,” said Odom, who added that Mauk will have a chance to compete for the starting job. “I wanted to get his feel on where he was and what he wanted to do quite frankly. We sat down, after giving that some time and thought, with our administration about him wanting to be a part of our program. He’s on our team now, and just like every other player he’s going to have very strict guidelines on what they can and can’t do.

“The quarterback position is different than any position on the team and different than any position in sports. Those guys are going to be held very, very accountable for everything they do. They’re a representative of me and our football program and university. He’ll get started with us in January and just like a number of other guys they’ve got a list of things they have to get done to build trust in all the things we ask at that position and other guys on the team.”
