Sean McDonough is reportedly going back to school.

The ESPN Monday Night Football announcer agreed to step down from that role and return to the college game, according to a report from Sports Illustrated’s Richard Deitsch:

McDonough replaced Mike Tirico in 2017 after he left ESPN for NBA. He only spent two seasons in the NFL, but the college game will certainly welcome the talented play-by-play man back with open arms.

It’s unknown what the 55-year-old announcer has been at ESPN/ABC since 2000. He called college football games for ESPN/ABC from 2004-15.

McDonough’s call of the fumbled punt to end the Michigan-Michigan State game in 2015 was legendary:

Here’s hoping McDonough calls some SEC games in 2018.
