Both Texas A&M and South Carolina had high hopes before the start of the season. Now, one team has an interim coach and the other has a quarterback controversy.

Let’s take a look at what the media is saying about Saturday’s early game between the Aggies and Gamecocks in College Station:

1. Shawn Elliott has an opportunity. Pete Yacobelli of the Associated Press believes interim coach Shawn Elliott is currently auditioning for the head coaching position in Columbia for the 2016 season. If Elliott can pull out some magic to close out this year, he may be in contention to take over. A win over Texas A&M will only help his cause.

2. In College Station, all eyes are on the QB position. ESPN reported that Kyle Allen, Jake Hubenak and Kyler Murray will compete throughout the week to start against the Gamecocks. Allen had a hot start to the year, but has four interceptions in his last two games.

3. Expect a hard-fought battleShawn Elliott has his work cut out for him, according to the Columbia (S.C.) State newspaper. Texas A&M is coming off a back-breaking loss at Ole Miss, and will have a fiery Halloween crowd as support.

4. South Carolina has a chance as a 16-point favorite. The Gamecocks may have a chance in a game expected to be among the toughest on their schedule in the preseason.

5. Texas A&M’s offense doesn’t make many quick snaps. The Aggies get to the line quickly, but often check with the sideline before proceeding.
