Miami catches Hail Mary, still comes up short in loss to Louisville

Miami was trailing Louisville 38-31 in the waning seconds of Saturday’s game down in Florida. At stake? Miami’s slim ACC Championship Game hopes, as Louisville would clinch a spot in the conference title tilt with a victory.
The Hurricanes marched it to within Hail Mary range, giving them a shot to send it to overtime or win with a 2-point conversion.
Hail Marys are low-percentage plays — thus the name. But Miami … actually completed it. Star WR Xavier Restrepo made the catch off the tip.
The problem? Restrepo was short of the end zone when he caught the deflection and was immediately tackled by Louisville defenders:

That’s a devastating way to lose a game, but credit to the Louisville defenders for keeping their wits about them and quickly adjusting to the caught pass. Now the Cardinals are heading to the ACC Championship Game, where Florida State awaits. Both teams still have a shot to make the College Football Playoff, so the stakes will be very high.
“More like a Fail Mary, Canes,” my SDS colleague Andrew Olson (who may or may not be a Florida Gators fan) said.
Boom, roasted.
