Four-star defensive end Emmit Gooden committed to Mississippi State on Thursday evening at an event at his high school.

The 6-foot-3, 280-pound prospect from Brownwood, Tenn., chose the Bulldogs over offers from LSU, Tennessee and Alabama among others.

Gooden was named Tennessee’s Mr. Football Class 4A lineman of the year in late November and was the seventh-ranked prospect in Tennessee and the 13th-ranked strong-side defensive end in the nation according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

There is also a family tie-in to the Bulldogs as Gooden’s older brother, Jarvis Varnado, played basketball at Mississippi State from 2006-2010.

Gooden is the 15th commitment in the 2016 recruiting class for Mississippi State.
