Mississippi State looks to keep its hot streak alive, while Kentucky attempts to crawl out of its funk and right its spiraling record. The 2 meet in Lexington under the lights of Kroger Field at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time on the SEC Network.

Mississippi State vs. Kentucky preview

Mississippi State is on some kind of roll right now.

The Bulldogs have looked strong since a loss to LSU early in the season. They’ve rattled off wins against Arkansas and Texas A&M and are looking for another strong SEC win heading into the latter part of the schedule.

Kentucky is searching for a signature win, too. The Wildcats have one good win on the year over Florida, but none against currently ranked top 25 teams. Changing that this week is on everyone’s minds in Lexington.

For Kentucky, it needs to start with Chris Rodriguez Jr. He’s been good, rushing for 198 yards and a touchdown in 2 games, but still not to his true potential. He was heralded as the best running back in the SEC preseason, after all. The Wildcats need 100+ yards and a touchdown or 2 from Rodriguez Saturday, and he’s due.

Will Levis will likely be back after missing last week’s loss to South Carolina. The Wildcats offense sputtered without Levis on the field, having him back is a step in the right direction.

The key for Mississippi State lies in its SEC record-breaking quarterback Will Rogers. The senior QB is off to a hot start to 2022 and finds himself in the middle of Heisman talks depending on who you ask. The SEC’s all-time leader in completions has thrown for 2,210 yards and 22 touchdowns in 6 games for the Bulldogs. That’s enough to lead the country in passing yards and place second in passing touchdowns.

Rogers and company haven’t faced a defense as strong as Kentucky’s this season. If the Wildcats pass rush can get in Rogers’ face, he could face some hiccups in the road. Stopping the air raid is something only LSU has been able to accomplish this season, after all.

Mississippi State vs. Kentucky prediction

Kentucky and Mississippi State are heading in the opposite directions as teams in 2022. The Bulldogs are playing like a top 10 team while the Wildcats can’t seem to catch a break after a fast start.

But let’s not act like Kentucky is a pushover here.

Mark Stoops’ squad is desperate to prove they aren’t a pushover. Kentucky’s dreams of winning the SEC are over, but a chance has presented itself for the Wildcats to tell the country they aren’t going out without at least a semblance of a fight. This will be a close one.

But ultimately, Will Rogers and the Bulldogs offense will be too much to stop.

Prediction: Mississippi State 35, Kentucky 27
