The Mobile Alabama Bowl, set to be played for the 21st time this season, has a new name a corporate sponsor.

From now on, the game will be known as the LendingTree Bowl. The news that it would be sponsored by the Charlotte-based company was announced by its official Twitter account on Friday evening.

The game has been known by several names during its lifetime, simply known as the Mobile Alabama Bowl for the first 2 times it was played in 1999 and 2000. GMAC took over sponsorship and it was called the GMAC Bowl from 2001-2010, followed by the GoDaddy.com Bowl (and later the GoDaddy Bowl) from 2011-2015. Finally, it was known as the Dollar General Bowl for the past 3 seasons.

The LendingTree Bowl will be played on Jan. 6, the first time since 2015 that it has been played in January. Notable MVPs of the game include Pro Football Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson, future Hall of Famer Ben Roethlisberger and longtime NFL quarterback Byron Leftwich.
